The art of speaking Shakespeare is seldom studied in depth and the RSC was the first company ever to appoint a full time voice coach. Movement, which enables an actor to express character and emotion without speech, is also a vital part of an actor's toolkit and needs to be developed and studied as an actor's career progresses. The company constantly explores new techniques and teaching methods.
"No other language has such an extraordinary writer, who is somehow the voice of the people. It is the RSC's job to keep Shakespeare's language alive."
— Cicely Berry, Voice Director
