Stratford-upon-Avon is where Shakespeare was born, educated, married, worked and is buried. There has been a theater in Stratford-upon-Avon dedicated to his work since 1769 and by the end of the 19th Century a resident company of actors had been formed, establishing Stratford as the international home for Shakespeare in performance. In 1961 they were officially granted the title of the Royal Shakespeare Company. With these historic roots and an ambitious reimagining of its future, the RSC is reaching out to the world from its English home.
